R50/53 question about headers
question about headers
So with my cat back I have been thinking about getting headers just wanted some opinons
So basically I'm wondering if there is any power gains? Whats the best brand for the price ?
And does the sound get louder ? Or is there no sound change ?
Sorry guys I didn't search first but all responses are appreciated

Mostly will depend on your future plans, if you're planning on going as far as a BVH, get a good one, RMW shorty or Mynes V2, I've used both, the both perform about equal, the two differences are mostly design & sound, here's an old write up I did on the differences for me:

If you're not planning on one, then the OBX or Meagan will both work well for you, again design & longevity will prob. be your deciding factor, you'll just have to read some past reviews.

BVH=Big Valve Head (cylinder head)
Here is the scoop. Just a header won't give you a lot of extra power, but it will make the car louder. A lot of headers cause engine codes with these cars. Without a tune, I wouldn't expect more than 5 hp out of most headers.
Unless you plan on doing other mods like a cam, BVH and ECU tune, I'd spend the money elsewhere, because a good header, like an RMW, is going to cost a bit (you get what you pay for!). For instance, if you don't already have one, a 15% pulley will give you much more bang for your buck.

Another thing about headers & codes, the best way to avoid a code with a header is to use the factory CAT, not only will it not give you a code, it will last longer and the performance gains of using a high flow vs OEM are even less than adding the header itself.
Si if you do decide to get one, find one that will let you use the factory CAT, far less headaches.

The OBX used to be a pretty good solution, but they changed the design of the flange and primaries, so that they are really constricted. The same is true for other Chinese manufactured headers that have come through the shop, including the newer Madness one. There's no sense in buying a header that offers tiny ports on the flange. Remember that the factory manifold is a tubular header, so it flows pretty well.
The other piece of the puzzle is cat quality. There is only one non-factory high-flow cat that offers factory durability. It is manufactured in Germany by a company called HJS. They are wickedly expensive so they're pretty rare on aftermarket headers. It turns out that the Milltek has the HJS cat, so for durability, they are the best. Unfortunately, the Milltek has smallish flange ports: not as small as others, and plenty large for a stock head, but if you're getting a ported head they're not ideal. From a pure performance standpoint, the RMW has been the best on our dyno (disclaimer: this is based upon observations over multiple tests. We have not done same car, same day comparisons, isolating various headers).

I guess we have to decide what we are looking to do with what we have and how far we are willing to go. With this jcw car a few mods is fine with me. So far what I have done seems to work very well for what I am looking for out of my mini. The only other thing left for me is to put on some front camber plates on the front towers
