Electricial system dead one second OK the next

2006 Mini. Mini is completely dead, nothing electrical works one moment and after opening the bonnet (hood) and doors or in some cases doing nothing the Mini comes back to life as if nothing was ever wrong, except clock must be reset and mileage driven and miles per gallon are reset. Prior to this on several occasions the clock, mile driven and miles per gallon have gone south. The mileage, miles per gallon were reset to zero and I had to reset the clock. I suspect a computer problem.

Note: When the Mini was under warranty a fault with the passenger seat sensor cause the electrical system to freeze (what was on could not be turned off, and what was off could not be turned on), this include brake lights, radio, interior lights, etc.. The seat sensor was replaced (7 years ago) and no problems until now.

I would check/clean the battery connections...make sure the ground wire is tight and secure...same for the ground in the engine bay....the one by the passenger side engine mount!

I didn't think the answer would be a loose battery connection, but I did check and to my surprise the positive cable was loose. I cleaned both posts, positive and negative and then retightened. Hopefully the problem is solved. Thank you for your help.
