R50/53 How to tell day of assembly?
Hey everybody --
I just got my 2002 MC last week, and I saw that a lot of people here knew the exact day their MINIs were assembled. Where do you find that info? I'm guessing it's somewhere obvious, like on the original sales sticker, and I just haven't seen it yet...
thanks!

Hey. Welcome to the site. There are ways to find it out online(owner's lounge) and paper work but here is another way. Read this forum: MCO Forum
It has a link to a MINI2 Forum which has more info. Basically, all you do is hold in the odometer reset button (with key in 1-3 position) until "test 1" come up, and push (an let go) the reset button til you get to "test 1.4" wait a second, and a 3-digit number will come up (ie. 0702) the first two numbers is the week of the year that the last two numbers indicate, which is 2002 for you. Hope this helps. P.S. have you not been to the owner's lounge on miniusa.com.

The exact build date may be displayed somewhere in the Owners Lounge -- I don't remember for my Cooper. But I can tell you that soon after delivery. my "area" in the Lounge changed and none of the order/build/ship/delivery info was available any longer. Now, it's more geared to post-delivery data.
Also, to "npartist": Does that odom trick just give you the build week or the build date?
Thanks!

I'm confused that you are just now receiving a 2002 MC and I've been driving my 2003 MC for 3 weeks. Had a build date of 09/13, it shipped from Oxford on 09/13 and arrived at dealer on 10/02.

I don't know about the odometer trick (sounds cool though!) but as far as OL info...this point comes up all of the time...all production dates on the OL are FRIDAYS! They're not accurate, just approximate to the week that your car will be/was built. OL is cool and a great way to kill time while waiting, but once you have a real car to play with you'll realize that it's actually pretty crummy info...IMO.

I never put in an order for mine, I just showed up at the dealer 2 weeks ago and got an '02 MC they had for sale. I think the ones they were selling were ordered MINIs that had financing fall thru or something. Anyway, they said none of them stuck around the lot for very long, so I figure mine was a pretty recent build.
Thanks for all the tips. I looked on the owner's lounge at miniusa.com but that didn't have anything. I'm going to try the dash readout thing later.
