I don't know Helix as I'm not from SoCal, but CLEARLY there are SoCal options and "everywhere else". Talk about a perfect place to do your own upgrade work!! I do alot of E30 resto and the folks out there are just amazing.

Helix is in the Philly area. But what makes them a great resource is that they manufacture Mini upgrades. Like one of the better FMICs. So I'd love to be able to get mine installed by the same guys that made (and warranty) it.

Well....southern CA
LOOK UP JAN/RMW.
you actually have tons of options...just more red-tape with the CARB to deal with!
Generally folks on either coasts are fine, as a ok towards detroit...places where mini statrted selling cars back in 2002. Simple fact is there were so many moddifications for r53's, many places popped up with parts...so hobby bussiness, some full blown...
places like Minspeed, texasspeedwerks, M7, webbmotors, etc, all sold, consolidated, kinda a shame, but gen2 seems to be more about tech (connected and handheld tuners) than about getting a pulley installed at a mini pulleyparty with 6 others, a sixpack and some pizzas! Tunes...lol...were the end of modding, not the start!
i can only guess gen3 mini's will be so finely engineered, that mods will be even more limited....lets face it...a part from thr factory only has to be "good enough " for factory power, no huge gains...we already have that on n14's with the pistons that fail around the skirts at similar gains we are accomostomed to seeing on r53's with stock parts.....but age, accidents, rust and miles hsve taken their toll....lets face it, the gen1 was sold in pretty small numbers ...and getting smaller by the day.
the NEAT thing sbout the jcw kits on a gen1 was JCW was a separate company at the time, and you got a signed certificate with the kit...bmw later bought them out, with rights to use the name....so while the JCW kits are morepowerful, intergrated, etc, imo, it is not the same....less of that human touch from the man that made jcw a jcw, and now just a factory hotrod.....
