After 3 months of ownership, yesterday I encountered my first warranty issue - the CRACKED WINDSHIELD. When I purchased the car from Classic in Ohio, the car was delivered with tinted window, along with a strip of tint across the top of the windshield. Now the car will be serviced by Rassmussen in OR. Will the dealer cover the cost of the tint? Has anyone encountered this issue? Do you feel that the manufacture should be responsible?

Since I found out about the issue late Friday, I won't be able to contact the service dept until next Monday.

No idea about the tint, but if the crack has no rock chips on it put some clear packing tape over it RIGHT NOW! Your dealer will probably run a ball-point pen along the crack and if it hangs up in a chip (even a teeny one), they can refuse to replace it under warrantee.

If they refuse, and it is out of pocket to you. Try Glasspro, in NW Portland. I pickedup a rock in Jan.Chris @ Glasspro did a great job. The cost was a lot less than dealer.

Thanks for the advice! I hope Rassmussen MINI will not deny the warranty of the windshield. I'll find out Monday.

I only wish you had been sorry enough about my windshield to do something about Global Imports in Atlanta refusing to replace my windshield under warranty.

MINIDivision, do you care to comment on the famous "pen test"? My windshield cracked and Global Imports used the pen test to deny my warranty claim. Interesting that the chip they found was at a point that the crack had grown to rather than at the origin of the crack.

I ended up getting the much higher quality aftermarket PPG windshield and have been crack-free ever since. It's probably better that I did not get a replacement windshield under warranty since the OEM MINI windshield is so weak that it would have likely cracked again . . . .

You know....in the UK there is a huge business in insuring windshields....absolutely everyone, it seems, has that kind of insurance........never see it here though.....but my all state deductible, which is $250.00 happens to be the cost of the windhsield replacement on my F-350. A tree branch fell on it....those bastards at Ford denied my claim.......

Rassmussen in Portland replaced the cracked windshield under warranty as it was clearly a stress crack. Unfortunately, the strip of tint across the top isn't covered, so that'll be out-of-pocket cost.

That sounds exactly like what happened to mine, which should be covered under warranty.
