JCW CAI Mod Question

Hello all,

Im running the removed vent mod on my JCW CAI (with K&N pod) and am very happy with sub 4500rpm perfomance and enjoy the added sound.

My question relates to the design of other CAI's such as Alta. These CAI's seem to get intake air from the windsceen cawl only and not vented from front grill.

I've read that ram flow CAI's work better with only one source of intake air. If so should I remove the front intake cawl leaving just the large rear to emulate the Alta design and if so wouldn't that just restrict the airbox the same way as original JCW spec?

Or does the overall diameter of the intake come into play?

removing the front intake tube from the grille to the bottom of the box is a HORRIBLE idea. Over 90% of the air that goes into the airbox goes through that. The air really doesn't get pulled from the cowl. The cowl is a low pressure area, you do get some air but mor comes from the inlet hose.
On the JCW intake removing the rear flap can help get more air around the filter, but it also allows the air from the hose to wash across the filter.

Yeah thanks mate I'll certainly leave it alone, mine was more of question of the pyhsics behind it all and living in Australia I'd be even more hestitant in removing such a vital source of cold air

Way is dead on (of course) the back flap & cowl act as a vent to allow more air in from the front, basicly the venting helps to increase overall air flow, thats why you really need both for optimal.
