Water in my car!?!?

I bought my 03 S in the fall. I was waiting till our not so good Canadian winter passed to start upgrading some parts. When I got in the car this morning, there was A LOT of water on the front floors. I have weather tech floor mats so luckily they caught most of the water. As far as I can see, it is coming down the side of the dash....like on the little side covers that you access when the doors are open. Water was trickling down there. I didn't have time to inspect too much cause my wife was on her way to work. The car has no accidents and was extremely well taken care of by the previous owner and member on the site here. I park the car on a very slight incline in my driveway. Doors and windows all seem to close nice and tight.

Any help would be great. Interior water is a PITA!!!!

Do you have a sunroof? I had a VW that had a leak and i figured out that there are drains in the sunroof track that get clogged. I used a compressor and a thin wire to clean them out and it fixed the problem. Not sure if I helped but....

Hey thanks, never thought of that. And yes it has a sunroof. I will take a look at that tonight.

Yes +1,

Check the to cassette where the water drains in the corners. Sunroof drain tubes. They can clog with debris and such. There are two in the front and two in the rear. #10 and #11 in pics.

Also if they are clean and look ok the drain tube might be leaking. You have to get behind the headliner and A pillars to see.

Thanks

ECSTuning, thanks for that link. My water isn't coming from the clock but is probably coming from the lines going down the a-pillar. I will look at them later at get back to you.

For the want of a tie-wrap....

This happened to me this weekend, too. I have a 2005 Mini Justa, and found water in my PASSENGER SIDE floorboard ONLY.... thought it wierd; Its been raining cats and dogs here for three days and my Coop has to sit outside in the driveway.

I found it when I took it back out (after plugging what I thought were gaskets around the windshielf A-pillar on the PASS side. Found another pond on the floor.

WEnt back into the garage and started yanking body panels. Seems it was indeed dripping from the lower right side of the dash... tiny stream from the bottom of the a-pillar... pulled the white A-pillar plastic guard and found it dripping from the edge of the headliner over the passenger seat at the door weatherstrip. Traced the water on the top of the headliner (thankfully they are plastic-coated on top) to the drain at the sunroof...

The drain hose had come loose from the exit port on the sunroof... A tie-wrap to cinch it down and its good as new again. I'm glad that is all it was. There is a different but similar one on the driver's side.

Good luck!

Please check to see if the passanger sidewall footwell is wet...
if it is, please try to dry it out ASAP, the BCM is in that area, and water can wick its way up the wires...and electronics and water....zap!! Becomes a $$ fix.

Yes, there is water on the floor on both sides and all the way around the edge of the headliner in the whole car. I was able to get a wire I to the drivers drain but not the passengers, so I am sure that's the culprit. I just got called to work so I can't tear it all apart right now, but I will do it in the morning. As far as the pass side water on the floor, it's in the carpet. Not too much I can do. It's in the garage and the heat is at 70 degrees. It will sleep in there over night

sorry to hear about your soggy interior; mine did a similar thing last year, turned out it was the door seals (no sunroof on my '03 MCS).

I partially blame the fact that the seals were on and off a few times, the last being the dealer recall corrosion fix on the door openings. Anyways all dry now.

I had the carpet ozonated by the dealership service while it was out, that way no nasty odors to haunt me in the future.

good luck

I found that damp basement or dry-rd also helps remove all the dampness and moisture. sounds like you have a drain clogged somewhere. wish you the best of luck.

So I had the time to fix the car today. You guys were right. It was the drain tubes for the front sun roof drains. On both sides the rubber tubes were completely off. I got the front of the headliner down a bit and was able to reconnect them and put some tie wraps on each end. Whole job took about an hour.

Here is a pic of the tube on the pass side.
