My 2006 r50 (automatic transmission) will only start in neutral. My mechanic says its the shifter sensor and the only way to fix it would be to replace the whole shifter assembly at the cost of about 350.00.

I can do this myself and just buy a used assembly for 100.00 or less but wondering if anyone has had this issue before?
