R50/53 Is my belt slipping, or is it just me?
Is my belt slipping, or is it just me?
So ive had this question for a while now, let me set up the scenario. Lets say Im in third gear doing about 3k RPM and I mash the throttle. The RPMs go to 5000-6500 (depending on how hard I mashed the thrttle, obviosly) and I hear the supercharger screaming, but the car doesnt accelerate at a rate that I feel matches the RPMs increasing. then after several second, maybe even 5 seconds, the car really starts to accelerate. So my question is this, where are the RPMs going, cuz their not going to the wheels right away. Which in my logic means that somewhere the power is not getting transfered down the chain of movement to the wheels. Which means to me that something is slipping. Is this a correct assumption, or is my logic flawed (quite possible)? Thanks for any input.
If your revs increase but not your speed and your speed catches up later it means that your clutch is gone. I found that out the hard way in my subie
. Especially in higher gears at low rpm it would increase throttle by about a 1000 rpm and then the car would catch up.

Neither did I, only in higher gears at low rpm. At high rpm everything was fine. For mine, at one point it would not engage in first anymore when I tried to pull away from a stop sign. It sucked when it happened because if it could have hold on for 5 more shifts I would have been 30 miles from home, instead of 500...

my money is on the clutch, Easy simple test to do. (I recommend getting someone experienced to do this for you) if i ever have to do this test i usually do it at speed rather then stationary.
Put the car in 5th or 6th gear rev it up to 4k or higher and drop the clutch (flatten your foot on the accelerator as you drop the clutch). if it stalls clutch is all good if the engine keeps reving throw the clutch in the bin and get a new one.
do so at your own risk

That is normal for a clutch going bad. Never had a problem in the lower gears, for various cars.
My car does what sounds like the same thing. I recently upgraded to the 15% pulley with a new built (appropriately sized to the smaller pulley). The weird thing though, for me, is that this issue is very sporadic. It did it a noticeable amount for a week, then went away for a month. And since then, once in a while, for no rhyme or reason, it will do it. I would think if a clutch was going, it wouldn't "get better".
Clutch
.......
When engine rpm does not match road rpm...clutch....in a stick they are connected.......a slipping sc belt usually results in a squeel or powerloss.....oem belt on them oem pulley CAN be good for a couple of years, but aftermarket, especially with a pulley should be changed every 2 years or sooner....

And PLEASE REMEMBER .....the speed of the SC is DIRECTLY related to engine speed....faster motor, faster sc....if a belt is slipping, it CAN go slower...so no accleration, no scream....but if you hear it screaming, and the motor, and the car is taking a bit to "catch up", clutch.
