OH is it the famous strut mount crack? Is it still ok to drive?

OMG! I just noticed this today when i was changing my oil and I have no idea when it started to crack.. I searched thru here and may I have your help on these few questions:
1. is it still ok to drive?
2. how do i fix it? so far drive seems normal and here suggested it cracked after ran thru a pothole and i remember its one or 2 years ago..
3. the cracked surface seems like made of plastic?

this is a R52 2008 with 60K miles on it....

THanks a million and i dont think i can sleep tonight!

It's ok , but you need to fix it. The crack is in the rubber strut mount. Flatten the strut tower then install new mounts, a brace or plates will prevent future mushrooming.

however, why is this plastic thing cracked? does it mean the metal plate beneath it is in danger too?

Thats the rubber mount thats cracked. Eventually, if not fixed, it will break through and you don't want that to happen.
