On the subject of the one ball mod I had way too much drone in the cabin. I used all brand new OEM hangers and clamps in the process as well. I ended up with a 17" resonator from Summit Racing on it and now couldn't be happier. Nice exhaust tone (did not change the tone much of the one ball) and no drone.

Mine is an 03 and it was just the cat to straight pipe to the one ball. Is there another resonator on the newer r53 other than the other ball? Everyone I talked to said they did not have drone but had newer coopers.
Hmm never heard of that happening to the bpv from the vgs mod. Interesting. Something I will have to keep an eye out for.

As far as my exhaust goes it does not have a resonator and I have zero drone in cabin.

Thanks for the input. I had some vibration in my seat from 2.6k - 3k RPM. My r53 is a daily driver and I do highway to work every day. 70mph was getting pretty annoying. I bought the one ball from another member and clamped it to my old piping. I had no experience with the exhaust prior. My old system had rusted on the muffler. It also had Magnaflow tips welded on. Maybe something with the joint on the tips caused extra turbulence thus giving me some vibrations. I'm not an exhaust expert but all I know is the resonator worked for me. I'm pretty picky about sound (getting old) and spent quite a few hours trying to figure out the drone/vibration. That is why all the mounts are new.

The VGS leak I contribute to my BPV being old. My car is an 03 so with 16+psi. I found out when I put my boost gauge in I was lacking boost. Only getting 10psi max. I felt the car getting slower over a few weeks after the VGS mod. When I get to putting in my DT BPV I will try the VGS mod again.

I'm following up on my VGS woes today. I am only getting 13psi post mod...not sure where the leak is but I'm hoping its the IC boots not the diaphram of the BPV.

Edit: it is indeed the diaphragm that was leaking. /end thread highjack

This thread got me to try the one ball mod. I took my '04 to a muffler shop today and had my resonator removed. Pretty chill place, they let me watch and help while they worked and had my car up on the lift. I confirmed what I suspected, my oil pan was seeping at the gasket (one more thing to do while the supercharger is out for an oil change).

Back to the mod; sound is definitely noticeable but not very loud. There are more burbles and pops and it is a bit louder on the freeway and at woot but nothing too loud. Overall, good way to spend 75 bucks. I have some maintenance (gaskets, bushings, etc) to do before I think of modding and when I do, the pulley will be the first thing followed by a CAI so for the time being the one ball mod gives me a better sounding car for the money until its time for a full system.

That a bummer. Do you have a resonator in the system at all or is it just straight through to the muffler?

If it is straight through try adding a resonator. Ironically cherry bombs work quite well as cheap resonators

Has anybody had luck changing the muffler to something that does not sound like a civic?
Videos?

the problem is how small the muffler needs to be in order to fit under our cars. alot of muffler's won't work because of this.
