R50/53 Soon to be Mini owner needs some advice
>>Hey there,
>>
>>I'm ordering Saturday, too. That's cool. I've been over this thing twenty thousand times since I test drove two weeks ago. I drive a VW Jetta right now, so I was looking for something more fun. I went in, drove the S, loved it to death. My MA encouraged me to give it a go and I was pleasantly happy with the performance, compared to my Jetta. We went and worked out the payments and it just didn't work configured the way I wanted it. Certain things were just not options to remove. So I drove the MC...I was still pleasantly surprised. Now mind you that I'm coming from a 2.0 Jetta, while a nice first car for me, was not super speedy (not the 6 cylinder if you get my drift). I drove the S then the MC so the drop in power was more apparent for me.
>>
>>But I'll tell you what. I still loved it. I get to keep my options and not break the bank at the same time. Even dropping options doesn't bring the S into my price range, which I also tried to do. Yet I still go and order Saturday. I have to say that there are things about the MC that I like more than the MCS. I like the bonnet, like you said, the bumper with the chrome accents installed also looks really sharp.
>>
>>I know it's underpowered to most of the users here, I'm aware of that, but I'm still joining the club soon. For being a daily driver that will occasionally be thrown through some country twistys, I think it will be a good addition to my family.
>>
>>If I had the cash, and could keep the car the way I wanted it, yeah I'd get the S. Good luck Saturday, wherever you are.
Yes, the MC bonnet looks more elegant than the S. The chrome bits are also great, especially in a color combo that really shows them off (PS/B, DS/B, B/B, B/W, IB/W). I put an aero grill on my PS/B MC's standard bumper and I love the look. As for "most" users thinking that the MC is underpowered- I don't think that's the case. While the S has a bit better passing speed, for the twisties, the MC is all the car you could wish for. Over spring break in my MC I was hitting lots of really long open empty stretches on a rural area driving vacation and I was frequently hitting speeds of 3 digits w/ no zeros. The MC is stable, safe, and very capable of surprising folks after a couple of relatively inexpensive mods (intake, exhaust) which will provide a bit more zip, well worth it if you're keeping the car for any length of time.

I drove both stick shift MC and MCS, and was thrilled with both. Of course I am an adrenaline junky and bought the MCS, but if I still lived in a big city the MC automatic would be the ticket. The MC still retains most of the handling characteristics of the MCS.
Also have a 95 Saab SE Turbo, which I always thought was a moderatly fast and good handling car (with lots of turbo lag and torque steer). The MC would walk all over it. Now the Saab is my winter beater with snows (we get 200+ inches).
You will not go wrong with either the MC or MCS.
