MAF Cleaning Help

I know this has probably been covered, but I'm seeing mixed opinions on how to do this. I think it's time to clean my MAF. I have 126k miles and am not sure if it's ever been done. I cannot locate the part I need to clean, either. Does anyone have any directions or opinions on how I should go about doing this? My car idles poorly at times, and often sounds like it's misfiring. I'm also getting poor gas mileage.

TIA

there are several kinds apparently (neat info here!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_flow_sensor

i have yet to find the one on the mini. its internal somewhere, perhaps in the TB... sensor cleaners say to turn the engine off, spray to clean, wait, fire it up. this is less helpful however if you cant find the MAF of course :P guess youll have to google to find it on the mini, and what kind, and if its safe to clean with your cleaning solution.

if your at that mileage, have you done some of the basics? plugs, wires? you run injector cleaner and decent gas every once in a while?
