a typical 80,000 lb tractor trailer truck has a little as 360 hp, but as much as 1500 lb foot lbs of tourqe from a 13 liter motor.......and usually 10 gears to get to 65 mph....heck the first 6 only get the truck to 15 mph!!
Pure hp never tells the whole story till you know about tq. Heck that tq is abalable at just 1100 rpm!! And its will typically never go above 1500 rpm is the driver is any good.
of course if that same 13 liter motor was turning at 6,000 rpm while making that torque number, the HP would amount to 1,713.6.

(torque * rpm ) / 5252 = HP

Cheers,

Charlie

If it would only run that fast...redlines run about 2000 rpm in modern diesel motors...but they are called "tourqe rise" motors today....the turbo puts out more volume of air at low rpms due to high temps of the exhaust...letting them run higher boost at low rpms...so 1100-1200 makes more tq at lower rpms due to tge fuel delivery curve being modified...unique to diesel motors...
But just shows how the charistic of a turbo...effected by heat of the combustion can help make better tq at low rpm if the computer is tuned right....even in a gas car...hense tge flat tq curve.

What hp are people getting with what mods? Thanks
So I realize this is a dead thread but in case someone comes along looking for this answer ive made a shopping list to get you over the 200HP threshold.
