Quick Exhaust Question...

Hey everyone!

This is my first post here, but I drive a 2005 Mini cooper S Electric blue =)
The next upgrade that I am looking at is a catback exhaust. Now I already know of almost every name brand exhaust there is on the market, but as we all know they are all pretty expensive and I am on a bit of a budget. Normally i am very much against no name Ebay parts, But I was wondering if anyone has every used an Ebay catback exhaust for their Mini cooper S?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/02-06-MINI-C...de2250&vxp=mtr

This is an example of one. Its $300 SHIPPED. It says its stainless steel, and its the N1 style like the Nvidia exhaust. If anyone has anything Good or Bad to say about this exhaust please let me know. I am also very concerned with the sound, I have heard sound clips of almost every exhaust and I have taken a liking to some, and hate others. I am somewhat worried that I might get a 'ricey' sound out of this exhaust.

Thank you all for your time

If you have an extra $100 to spend, you should get an Ireland Engineering cat-back. It sounds awesome and is good quality.

Yes, and if you don't, wait and save for it. The car's sound is such a core part of the experience, you don't want to fudge it up. I originally wanted to cheap out, and get one of those Megan cat backs (not many options for my car). In the end, I spent twice as much and went JCW. No regrets at all.

I would have been all over that if they offered one for my car. Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

Keep in mind, you usually need two 2.5 inch bolts to mount it to the cat. Ireland Engineering does not include these with the exhaust.

Dont forget the one ball! Also, another option and maybe cheaper is going to a exhaust shop. OEM exhaust is 2.5" so just repipe and add two new mufflers....or one new muffler. I did my own one ball mod and it only cost me $15 for the 90 degree elbow with flared ends.

Form what i have read the average price for a one ball mod at a shop is around $50. I am sure you can get a decent 2.5" muffler between $50-$100 online.

Just saying that there are more options out there besides the $400 plus aftermarket exhaust that is 2.5".

The OEM exhaust on the R53 is 2.25" ID from the cat to the first muffler.

No experience with the eBay exhaust, but if you go to the Minis On The Dragon thread on Exhaust Sound Off, you may find some alternatives once Poon puts the videos up. The only conclusion we could draw is that one man's noise is another man's music, listen carefully before buying.
