R50/53 Pulley puller....
Pulley puller....
Sorry moderator to post this here. I'm looking for a good, used supercharger pulley for my '05 S. Hate to spend big money to only use something once. I'm not cheap, just simple economics.
I plan on going with a 15% pulley b/c everyone on here I will really see a difference with the pulley b/c the OEM pulley is a dog according to Outmotoring.com. Plan on using the new silicone connectors etc too, to help smooth out the air flow. Colder plugs required too?
Do you all really think I'll see an improvement on acceleration b/c here's the deal: I do NOT drive fast. But I sure like the stoplight to stoplight action. You know, the one that snaps your head back by sheer acceleration? I don't ever, ever dump the clutch either. I just like letting the clutch out smoothly in 1st, and then when once in 2nd gear kinda just punch it right on into 3rd and 4th. Kinda surprises the Stangs and Vettes out there. It's the Little Red Car that CAN.

wvm....you WILL see an improvement!!!!
I just did mine 2 weeks ago. 15% pulley, new belt, cold plugs, and tensioner (that for to install!). Acceleration is very much improved, I am pealing rubber in 1st and second and while shifting on turns (w ESC set to off). The car is always asking to more....in 6th gear at 90mph, it will want to make just press the gas pedal more.
In terms of power...I pealed out yesterday leaving nice 35ft lines , and then another 6ft on second gear.
If you like the light to light deal, you will enjoy the upgrade. If you can get a CAI while you are at it since you will be tearing down the entire engine bay (not tooo much of an exaggeration). Make sure you stay with the 15% pulley others may not ensure long life of the engine, particularly in stop and go traffic.
Enjoy it man, it is by far the best performance/cost basis. Do get the tools, they are worth it. I am actually about to sell both the pulley puller and the tensioner. New you are looking at $150 plus shipping. I'll sell them for $140 shipped. Let me know if you are interested.
If you need the Alta belt tensioner, add $20.

Mechanics job...
As I told one nice fellow who offered a puller to me for 50 bucks, after looking at some "how to" pics, I think I'll just beg off b/c it really looks involved to me. More than I am capable of. Some things are better left alone.
Thanks for all the kind replies but I'm just afraid to tackle this job on my own.

There are some very detailed instructions around...ALTA in particular. I used those, as the pulley i bought did not have any. It is not an easy install....you must have knowledge, and patience....working in the engine bay of a mini is tough.
There are several tuner shops that will charge just a few hundred for the upgrade. The dealers (if you can get them to do it) will quote you about 44 to 6 hrs worth of labor.
Don't give up on this it really wakes the inner wild child hidden in these little cars.
Good luck with whatever road you take.
