2004 MC40 Broken Valve Spring
Yesterday I was driving my 2004 MC40 with 65K miles and bingo the next thing I know I'm not firing on all four. First time I have ever had any problem whatsoever. I don't throttle the car either. I shut it down, have it towed to the dealership, they call me today and tell me I have a broken intake valve spring on #2 but that the valve didn't drop and that they will simply pull the cover and replace the spring while securing the valve with compressed air from within the cylinder. Anybody ever hear of such a thing $600 later? Then I am told that my oil pan has a slight leak at the gasket and that will cost another $600 bucks to drop and replace, then comes the front stabilizer bushings for another $700. Anybody have any experience with any of this? Thanks

Yep had the same valve spring break on mine. Of course it wasn't covered because of the aftermarket pulley cost me a little over $800 to fix that.
The oil pan gasket is a common thing and is about a 5 hour job to replace from what I hear. Just keep an eye on the oil level until the leak gets so bad that it has to be done or you get the money together for the repair.

dang almost 2k for all that?
im glad i do all the work on my cooper.
depending on how bad is the leak i would just live with it for now and do what topdown said about monitoring your oil level. go you tube and watch how to check for worn control arm bushing rather than explaining it to you. definitely need to fix the spring if its really the spring thats is bad. good luck dude.
