Below Zero Tire Pressure Recommendations?

Hi Nam-ers-
I recently had to go up North and had the Tire Pressure warning light come on. It was below zero and I'm not sure why or even if I have a tire pressure monitoring system on my 2006 MCS. I was able to pull into a station and get a few more pounds of pressure in the tires, but didn't notice any reset button for the monitoring system if there even is one. I suspect it would be located around the power mirrors button between the seats, but I didn't see a button and am at a loss to explain why the warning light came on. I've only owned the car about a month now and have no previous Mini experience. Any ideas? I did a thread search, but there was nothing specific to super cold weather driving...

Haven't been anywhere close to near below zero temp, so I wouldn't know but I will suggest bump it up to 40-42 PSI and go from there...

I currently run my Bridgestone Dullers S/P RFT at 40PSI here in the DC area and it does fine, so give it a try...

Run the PSI reccomended on the drivers side doorpost...
The reset light (on a stick car) is in the middle by the e-brake handle...check the manual for the proper reset procedures, but you basicly re-initalize the system by poshing the button and driving a bit. The system uses the abs sensors to count, and monitor wheel revolutions, and then whatches for a sudden change in rpms per distance traveled by one tire.

Cold air is more dense than warm air. Golf ***** don't go as far and tire pressure decreases. For any given volume of air, the trapped air in a tire, it becomes more dense (colder) taking up less volume hence lower pressure in the tire. If you fill the tire to say 40# at zero degrees then drive the car hard for a couple of hours the friction will heat the air causing it to expand running your tire pressure up quite a bit.

A long time ago when schools actually taught, this subject was good for one or two days worth of instruction in Driver's Ed.
