race seats and airbag questions.

ok well i have installed race harness and taken out my stock seats but now im left with the dillema of the disabled air bags and seatbelt sensor.

has any one here shorted them out or used a resister to bypass this annoyance?

or is there a legit way to make this go out with out just simply removing the led in the dash alerting me theres a problem with my airbags and my seatbelt isnt buckled.

any input helps

That's the resistor you need for the side airbags in the seat

Plug your stock seatbelt sensor into the harness no way to bypass that

If your car is a 04+ there is no resistor or anyway to bypass the passenger weight mat, you have to take the mat out of your passenger seat and transplant it into your new seat.

If you are cinched tight in your harness I dont think the airbag will have any effect or help in a crash anyway....You ever see airbags pop in Rally cars , Track cars, ect...Live with the light ...

no because rally cars have stripped out steering columns with race steering wheels (helmets and neckbraces) Street use race harnesses without airbags will wreck havoc on your neck if you ever hit something.

True also......but in the 03 mcs shouldnt the steering , pillar , passenger bags still fire if you head on with something. Even if you dont use the mat or resistor?

I'm bumping this thread back into existence. I have a late style '04 (steering wheel buttons are '05+ style) and want to remove my front passenger seat so I can install a false floor from the back all the way to the front... not permanently... just for occasions when I need to sleep in my car (camping, wife kicked me out, etc etc)... so basically the false floor will cover the entire inside of the car except the driverseat. do I even need to bypass the weight mat and seatbelt sensor? or will that kick off errors when I'm driving the car without the seat plugged in at all (with the resistor bypass installed)?

so to simplify my request... when the pass weight mat is disconnected, does it think someone is sitting in the seat? and will that cause the car to yell when driving

you'll want to throw a resistor on there so the airbags still want to deploy in case of accident (all of them are dependent on the system not having any error codes)

i would see if you could snip off the seat side of the harness from a wrecked seat if your going to go back and forth between having a seat and not having a seat so you have a little "plug n play" resistor pack that won't ruin the plug at all.

ya i'll put the resistor in... so that will prevent the airbag light from coming on... the other stuff i'm confident won't throw the airbag light, but it might chime the whole time i'm driving and the "put your damn seatbelt" light will blink... that is dependent on the pass weight mat... i'm assuming it's a contact to contact type connection... weight causes 2 wires to touch so to speak... and hopefully not weight causes 2 wires to no longer touch. if that's the case, i'm assuming a simple pin to pin wire will trick it... then i don't have to worry about the seatbelt chime... i could of course just buckle the seatbelt... assuming the buckle isn't part of the seat... never removed the front seats of a mini before.
