added too much oil? help pls?
2006 mcs 51k
last year at low mileage oil change dealer informed me of crank sensor seal leak---didnt seem like a big deal from what i read so i just monitored oil level every month.
it is about a year later now and next oil change is in about 10 days.
just got service engine soon light two days ago. i thought it was bc the oil may be low (it was at the bottom of dip stick marking). I added about 1.4 quarts which i now realize was too much. it is at the full mark after driving for a bit but goes to the top of the orange plastic after cooling over night.
should i try to empty some out or will it be fine until i can get to the dealer in 10 days for a full oil service?
come to find out the ses light was for the oxygen sensor, had it checked at autozone---have appt tomorrow am with mini to get that fixed
thanks

If you are going to bring it in soon you can drain some oil out without replacing the crush washer. The seal will not be good if you drain without replacing the crush washer so you need to keep a close eye on it.
To check your oil set the car on a 100% level surface remove the dip sick, clean it and set it aside for about 2 hours. Then take one stab at the oil level and see how it looks.

You can also syphon some of the oil out with a plastic tube down the dipstick channel. Pull out the dipstick. Insert the long small plastic tube. Syphon oil. No mess and no need to lift the car and remove the drain plug.
hey, thanks for the responses. Had appt this morning for o2 sensor replacement. They did the low mile oil change, wipers, and checked brake pads. Not sure why Service Advisor they used to have told me last year that it had to be exactly 1 yr from last date of low mile oil change. The new SA said as long at was within 30 days. Man, the previous SA was a shady dude and i'm glad they got rid of him.
couple more questions:
1. funny this time they inspected the whole vehicle again and said nothing about the crank sensor seal leak. strange, eh?
2. front brakes at 5mm and rear at 7 mm. My extended maintenance ends in May and I really want the new pads to have made it worth the $$. Should I just go drive up in the mountains and ride the brakes down---how long would it take to get the brake pad lights to come on? any other thoughts?
thanks again.

You sure the crank sensor is no longer leaking? These are very well known to leak. I just did mine as there's cake of dirt and grease I had to clean off my car.
Pads are pretty cheap. Unless you really want to drive for the fun of it, just wait until it goes.

Nope, I still think the leak is there just surprised nobody at the dealership said anything about it this time.
Brake pads may be cheap, however, they are cheaper (ie free) on the maintenance plan which ends in May.
