R50/53 Pulled the trigger
Pulled the trigger
Hey everybody, I've been lurking on NAM for a while now and I finally sold my Jetta and pulled the trigger on a 2004 Mini cooper S. I know it's absolutely hideous right now, but I already found a set of 17" graphite ASA five-spokes shod in Dunlop SP Sport 9000s to replace the ridiculous wheels on there now. Next will be all the chrome bits like the scoop, mirrors and cowls as well as replacing the boot handle. Then I'll decide whether or not I want to keep the trim silver or sell it and buy the original black plastic. I know that sounds like a lot of work, but I couldn't wait any longer to get into an MCS. pics of new car http://www.bluemelon.com/miniss/myfirstalbum#page-0

yeah i'm not really crazy about the chrome either. trust me, all that will change in the next few months
Wow.. those are some wheels! Not a big chrome guy either, but if I were you I'd keep it like that for awhile, it's just so much different than most other MCS out there. Welcome to the club!
I don't like chrome either but I would totaly rock that car as is.
I guess I just havent been all in on chrome.
hell I was just all over WI... I would have payed cash for them rims... was just in oshkosh, and stevens point, and like 7 other cities lol

if you're talking about the painted silver thing then yes I completely agree with you. do you know if I can just pull that off? or are are there mounting holes I will need to cover up?
Holy crap, that is a lot of chrome in the not-so-good areas! Looks like the driving lamps were watered a lot and grew! Never seen ones that large haha.
Seems that you have a good idea on how you want it to look though, make sure you keep us updated and post pictures of the transformation!

Yep thats the one. To me it looks like the OEM R53 wing, just remounted on the hatch like a tail. I will need to check tomorrow to see if that is even possible, I've never seen anything quite like it.
Good news is that if that is what it is, the OEM wing is attached with 2 studs and some really good double stick tape. That leaves 2 options on how its mounted, (1) Whoever thought that creation up took the time to measure everything out and drilled holes in the hatch for the mounting studs.
(Would require a professional body shop to fill the holes and do the repair.) Or (2) They where lazy but smart, and took the studs off of the wing and used just the EXTREME hold double stick tape to mount it. (Would come off with some Spider Wire fishing line, some Goof Off, and a rag.
)
You might be able to check how exactly its held on there by simply removing the inner plastic hatch trim, and looking for some studs (About 1/2 inch long) with 10mm nuts in the area the wing would be mounted on the outside of the car. No studs and nuts means no holes, just some super sticky tape.

well, the guy selling that R52 hasn't replied to my last email asking for a VIn so I guess this one isn't happening. anyone know of someone selling an R53 for about $6250?
Be real lucky to find an R53 anywhere near that price, not saying you won't but it would be rare, maybe an 02 if your lucky.Check auctions like this http://tinyurl.com/Unrealauctions
So the gray one in the original post is out of the picture and you bought and Indy Blue one instead?
Congrats! By the way, I LOVE Indy Blue. Great color. Be sure to post lots of pictures.
Happy motoring!

yep that is correct. I kind of figured the silver one was too good to be true at $6100, but I haggled the indi blue one down to $6400 since it has mismatched (16's in front and 17's in back oem Mini) wheels as well as a few other small aesthetic points all of which will be replaced by me anyways
$6k? That's a damn good price. I picked my base model S up for $9k and I was convinced no one could do better than that. Guess I was wrong!
The look is definitely not for me, but to each, their own ...
