R50/53 Dyno day disappointment
Dyno day disappointment

Well numbers speak for itself.

Obviously the only way to correct this is with a tune. Any idea how much one should run? im calling the local import shop first in morning.
So i picked it up 3rd hand. Supposed to have jcw tuning kit. I am wanting to say there was a missed step when the kit was put in.
I was hoping for a fun day but since my cooper went up, am saddened by the lack of care that was put into the jcw tuning.
Only thing ive done as far as performance is alta air filter and jcw flap mod to keep it open.
The exhaust sounded awesome tho, cant wait to get this were it should be. Just waiting for my buddy to email me file.

I'm betting you've got some giant boost leak.
I do not think it was the machine. Everyone elses car was great, a vette had taken the day with 558hp, my buddies g35 346, and some old school mustangs.
Ill look into possible leaks.
Ill look into possible leaks.
Ill get pictures of engine in am. I do not know who installed the kit, as I have no cert. :( the carfax was clean when I picked up the cooper, not sure what else a vin check would show?
Ill go through my dealer paper work I was given tomorrow and with the picture. As well as check out possible leak points.
Thanks for assistance:tup:

After reading up on different problems users have come across I think ive narrowed it down some as I do get they yoyo effect in 2nd.
Looking at a DT bpv, some intercooler boots, and a boost gauge. Is there any way to check for boost leaks and to know if the intercooler boots would need to be replaced?
Thanks

+1 Check the BPV. If it's not closing on it's own when the car is not running ,the spring inside it was broken. My car has a bad BPV when I got it.....when I replaced it....it felt like the car gained 50++ hp. HUGE difference.
something is amiss here. you shouldn't be running that rich. My guess would be that bpv. remove it and check it, also check to make the IC boots are fitted properly. TheIC boots wouldn't necessarily make it run rich, but that could be the source of a boost leak and would rob you of power

Before you go through all of the trouble to remove it....check to make sure it's closing when there is no vacuum to it (the motor isn't running). That's easy to do with a flashlight. It should be closed when the motor is idling...and when you turn off the motor, it should open up fully. Watch the arm on the valve...it's easy to see. It's on the drivers side, to the right of the intercooler.

The correction numbers on the dyno's are jacked up big time. Looks like the temp, humidity and pressure sensor weren't working. As you can see from below you were far from the perfect conditions and the 1.0 correction factor thats on your graph. 6% humidity, I don't think that is correct at all even if you are in Arizona. Mite be a combo of the dyno and your car.
What dynos correct to
77°F (25°C)
0% humidity
Barometric pressure of 29.234 in-Hg (99 KPa) (this also accounts for altitude)

You're headed in the right direction with your thoughts, you're def. loosing something at the top end.
With those torque #'s you should be more in the 165 to 175whp range with a dynojet, at least.
With the factory JCW, you should expect to see something like this, with a Dynojet:
200 hp JCW - 165+ whp
210 hp JCW - 175+ whp

Could still do that now. If you don't really feel a difference then there is a problem. Still, it is not that hard to get out and manually check if needed. I'm due for a new one soon myself.
One thing to look at...
when you have the ic off, look to see if you have stock injectors....
Having nonstock injectors, no tune will cause the car too run rich, and cause a powerloss...
Maybe the car had mods done...custome tune...then was returned to stock, or was simply flased by a deaker with the stock map...
if it has non oem injectors...that would cause this issue.

Thanks for all the replys! I will check bpv on my chow. and have some one watch it when i turn it over.
IDK if I will be able to take the IC off this after noon, but that will be done soon.
Thanks again.

-So ive edited OP with pics, best I could get for lack of light.
-Checked the bpv with engin on/off and off-open/on-closed (I suppose? it moved when the engine was turned on and off) Could not find much info on the bpv.
-Did not rip the IC off, but stuck a small mirror down the back end and was able to shine some light to revel blue! So that would be the 380s from all the info I can gather.
If the ecu had been re flashed from mini, would they not account for the jcw tuning and write the correct code? Just seems weird to me.
Got to start saving. In the mean time DO I have anything to worry about with not running with the tune? would resetting the ecu help me at this point?
