I have the same problem, only mine tends to go on full blast (even if its on at say low speed) when going over a bump. I've noticed that the display on the climate control will go off, the heater will go on full either until it decides its ready to play nice or until I give the dashboard a tap. My guess would be the climate control unit is on the way out.

How much coffee has been spilled on that poor climate control unit over the years due to strategic placement of cup holder? For mine the answer is something like " a heck of a lot!!" Who knew so much could spill out of that little coffee cup hole?
Mine's acted up in the past and I spray it down with elctronic cleaner cleaner stuff and blow it out with air in a can. Seems to do the trick until the next big spill.

thanks guys for responding.

well i took the car for a short drive to see if the the problem is still there. with in a 1/4 mile the ac turned on again, but this time i noticed the cup holder with a 16 oz water was leaning on the plus sign of the ac controller. the cup holder was bumping on the ac. problem solved.
