R50/53 Gas Mileage.......lets get specific.
I don't have an OBC on my MCS, but religiously check fuel mileage at each fill up. On last long freeway drive averaging 70mph for 350 miles in 6th gear I got 30mpg. Normal everyday driving (mix of freeway and suburban streets), averaging 40mph, maybe 15 miles in average trip of generally aggresive driving I get 21 -22mpg. ECU V36 has not made any appreciable difference.

I think giving the MPG and average speed is meaningless (no doubt calculated from the OBC).
The best way to compare mileages is to quote mpg in city driving and mpg in highway driving. Further, HOW FAST you drive also affects the mileage. So, folks, let's be more specific. For example, in another thread I mentioned my MC mpg at 32.42 mpg in the course of a six tank fill-up, giving driving speed examples: 75 mph mostly: 32.55 mpg and 31.36 mpg at 70-75 mph mostly. All the above driving was for highway driving.
It might appear an anomaly here because I was driving faster and getting better mileage in one case compared with another. The reason is that in the first case the drive was from Las Vegas to Bakersfield (bypassing urban areas), and in the second case it was the last leg from Bakersfield to the SF Bay Area (more traffic backup, urban area traffic, changes of speed, etc.)
The better the statistics and driving conditions, the truer your mileage figures. And as I also mentioned in the other thread, 43 mpg on the MINI is MINIUSA's pipe dream, concocted over rollers in a garage.

Bypass Valve modified:
Total Miles: 1806.3

Average MPG: 24.07

Total Average MPG: 25.73
As you can see, with the Webb Motorsports 200HP package, fuel economy is very slightly improved (this is congruent to my 1st MCS), however my bypass valve either tied shut and now with the stiffer spring, has cut the mileage by about 9.4%, ouch! Interesting note, the past 3 tanks are 808.4 miles and 31.537 gallons for an average of 25.6 MPG, a marked improvement over the period average. The recent improvement could be my foot, or the ECU adapting, or both, perhaps. My full-throttle entertainment is consistent, and my commute is like clockwork.
I hope that provides some insight, or at least some entertainment

The point I was trying establish here is that there is a relatively stable correlation
between miles per gallon and average speed........that one driver's 20mpg is often
just a good as another's 25 mpg depending on the specifics of their own driving style, i.e........how fast they drive, at what rpm's they tend to shift, MC or MCS, mods to the car, kind of roads they drive on.
Absolutely, this should be determined seperately for city/suburban vs. highway driving. Urban areas like Philadelphia where I live are going to yield lower average speeds and therefore, lower average miles per gallon due to greater congestion than in rural areas or smaller towns. In suburban/city driving I get a pretty stable ratio between mpg and mph of 1 to between 1.08/1.13 and I'm suggesting that the typical driver will have a ratio that is higher than mine, but still in the same ballpark........those who drive harder will have a ratio that is lower than mine.
From the information reported here I am fairly satisfied that my 18-20 mpg is just as good as some other driver's 23-25 mpg......knowing the comparative average speeds is the single most important factor that helps to put this into perspective.....I

It would be MOST helpful when people post their gas mileage here if they would
refer to their OBC and also post their average speed as well as whether they have an MC or an MCS. This is what would make it different and more specific than other threads that have been posted about the topic of gas mileage. Thanks!
For my last 69 miles I have averaged 20.8 mpg at an average speed of 23.6 mph in my MCS.

I've charted Computer milage, actual milage, miles to go, and average speed since I got my MCS. Over 10,000 miles the cumulative milage is 26.97mpg, high 30.65mpg w/a few other tank fulls in the 29 range. Average speed for those would be in the hig 50s. Had one trip w/average speed over 70 but ran out of road before gas and went into daily driver mode, bringing milage down. Low was 24.75, 35.4 mph. There is a fairly good correlation between average speed and milage. There has been a drop in milage during the winter months - my previous car dropped over 10%. The computer gives readings 2 to 3 mpg higher than actual.
Well in my first 200Mi, I can confirm (both in fuel added to tank and OBC- which is actually fairly accurate). I am averaging 25.6 MPG. Of course I am under breakin, so few "Wide Open throttle" times, and I am also keeping the engine under 4500RPM. Tho a few times i've let it go to around 5,000

Driving a 02 MC in mostly highway conditions, I average 32 during the summer, and as low as 27 in bad winter weather. Average speed works out to about 40-42 year round, somehow. I use regular gas. If I reset the computer while in cruise control mode on the highway, I can get in the mid fourties if I'm not going too much over the speed limit.

With 70% highway and 30% local driving, the JCW w/Alta intake and Nology wires is averaging 30 to 31 mpg according to the OBC. :smile: Very satisfy!!!

Jeez...I get around 22 mpg with an average speed of just over 30. I run 91 octane and drive sort of nuts. I cruise on the freeway in 4th so I'm always at or above 4000-4500 rpm...
On the track, however, it's down to 6 mpg...boo hoo... Next time I go back, I'll reset my computer and should come up with some interesting average speeed and mpg numbers.
