Missing engine cover

I just bought a 2005-S. When poking around, one of the things I noticed was that the cover over the cooler is gone, well what I believe to be the cooler for the turbo.

I believe it is just a show cover. Is there a special name for it? I want to order a replacement.

Thanks.

That's the intercooler cover (for the supercharger). In BMW language, "Sealing plate - charge air cooler". Should be able to get one at a dealer for under $100, or on-line. It's not entirely just for show, as it should seal against a foam gasket on the underside of the hood to force air from the scoop through the intercooler heat exchanger.

I would never have guessed that name LOL. Thank you. The seal gasket is there, so I will have to order one.

Or a lot of Vendors like Detroit Tuned have some used ones and can get you one much cheaper than the dealership. Dealership prices can be 60-90, but we can get you a lightly used one for $25! You also have the seal that is up on the bonnet also right? If not the air in not being forced into the intercooler and you are losing a lot of performance because of it.

Or check with Wayland at Way Motor Works (sponsor) to see if he has a good used one. Probably save you some $$.

Thanks again for the info. I need to double check to make sure that the gasket/seal is there, I'm pretty sure it is there.

Used is always good

Another option would be to get a DDM air diverter. it seals very well and looks even better.

Sorry, but I'd say that's pretty subjective... The stock one looks a lot better than that IMHO.

I'm trying to keep everything original at this point. Check your PM's.

Thanks!
