Diagnostic/Programming Software

Has anyone purchased the BMW DIS (v57)/SSS (v32) software that's available on eBay? It appears that this software, along with a BMW-specific OBD2 cable (also easily available online for cheap) would allow complete dealer-level diagnostic and programming for the R50/R53-series Minis. On its face it seems like a $50-60 investment would eliminate the need to take the car to the dealer for diagnostic work. Thoughts?

Interesting idea. I'm just curious to know others thoughts as I'm a fairly new owner.

Well, I just ordered the software. I suspect I'll have it in a few weeks (shipping from London). I'll update once I have it and get a chance to play with it.

Just curious if you have had a chance to play with this yet? I have just received it having ordered it off from eBay as well and am planning to explore with it this evening.

I haven't yet, I'm hoping to this weekend. It's kind of time-consuming to get it all setup and I haven't had a CEL or anything lately, so I haven't had any real incentive.

I hear you about the time consuming part, I have spent 3-4 days in my spare time after work unpacking, coping, installing, finding I missed a step... going back finding drivers.
I think I am close to being able to use it this weekend although I realized I only got v37 of the SSS and the latest is v41.
