Hatch is closing oddly

I noticed a couple weeks ago that the hatch was shutting a little different then before. When you shut it, it closes more off to one side then leaving a gap on the other side and top half of the hatch.

So I am wondering if maybe someone else has had this problem and knows how it may be fixed ???

Thanks

Check the hinges. Do a search on 'hatch hinge failure' or similar words.

I'm having the same issue. It started today,
Now the hatch barely closes with left side almost touching the opening (no gap at all) and huge gap on right side. The right side also is a bit lower and outward.
The weather strip on the window shows that the hatch is clearly misaligned.

Lube your hinges.

But it's probably too late and you'll have to replace one or both.....

Hinges are a wear item, apparently.

Yeah the hinges are known to rust and eventually break. Some dealer's cover this under warranty depending on year/mileage of vehicle.

Remember the rubber bumpers (on the hatch) can twist to adjust how the hatch seats...check it first. One of them might have gotten bumped, or the weatherstripping might be getting loose, and causing interference....since the hinges are $$, I'd rule out the simple stuff.
