R50/53 plastic engine Splash Shield
plastic engine Splash Shield
I hit a cat during 60 mph...
I pulled over and notice that the engine splash shield on the drivers side had been knocked loose and was dragging. Does ANYONE know how I can put it back in place? I have a 2006 Maintenance Manual.. but doesn't really address that. Cant drive it as is.. (or prefers not to)...

If you mean the lower wide, flat, plastic shield beneath the engine...
Loosen the three bolts along the center, lower edge of the bumper cover (10mm, I think). The engine shield sandwiches between the bumper cover and whatever it attaches to. That's the front of it. There are also two bolts/screws on either side of the shield. These are "capture" bolts, so should still be on the shield. Once the front of the thing is stuck beneath the bumper cover, these other two threaded attachments should line up.
OTOH, if the thing got ripped from its moorings, it's probably fubar'd (torn/broken) and you're looking at a junk yard solution.

Splash Shield
I didnt have ramps when I posted... but I DO now. After getting a better look, the screw (or capture bolt) on the side that was dragging was STILL in the frame. After loosing the front bolt(s) and realigning the guard.. I was able to reinstall the side bolt. As too WHY the bolt was still in the frame.. I tend to wonder if that guard is removed when changing the oil... since I get FREE oil changes at the dealer.. I'm wonder if THEY didnt reinstall correctly in the first place.... FREE aint what it use to be.
Thanks for the reply Filmy... a new guard may be purchased via MiniMania for $45 dollars.. if need be.

YW, and no, the shield stays in place for oil changes. The capture bolt is supposed to stay in/on the shield. If yours was able to be re-attached then all's good for you.
Not so good for the cat.
as for the cat... after I heard it hit under the car.. I looked in the rear view and saw the cat rolling on its side.. land on its feet and scamper to the side of the road...
the bolt/screw had threads on it.. and I screwed it tight back into the frame. *fingers crossed*
