Is it true that the 2003 mini is wired for an as of yet unreleased wireless cell phone option. On a thread a while back somone asked their dealer what some bump on the celing was for, and they were told that is was a microphone for a future hands free cell phone system. Does anyone know if this is true or just a rumor. If it is true, does anyone have any more information.

Thanks

I picked up my 2003 Mini Cooper two days ago. It has a microphone built in up by the sunroof controls. The sales manager explained it to me, but I was distracted by wanting to drive and didn't really hear what she was saying. I'm pretty sure she said I wouldn't be able to just plug my phone in somewhere and something else would be required.

THANK YOU!!! It has been driving me nuts what that thing is!! My husband and I thought it might be a speaker of some kind but didn't know for sure. Then some friends of ours thought it was an air vent?!?! Some other friends thought it was a sensor of some sort...glad that is cleared up. Now we don't have to play this guessing game!

If MINI follows suit with its parent company it will be most likely be Sprint phone.

I went to my BMW service center ( Montreal) . They told me the mini was wired for a Motorola phone. Once installed the phone functionality involves the Boost stereo system. Ie when an incoming phone call comes through it will automatically stop the music and pipe the phone audio throught the stereo system. Once your done with the call the radio/cd will resume play...sweet! I was told by my friend in the audio industry that this wiring can be configured with other phones...eg Nokia

are you talking about that little vent looking thing in the front on the roof?

I wondered what that was, I'm a 2002 Cooper but I'll call the dealer just to make sure, i'd like to know if that is indeed for hands-free etc and where I can plug in my Sprint phone.

what about the little rudolph nose looking button on the dash [middle], i believe that is for the alarm if you get one installed.
