I've just ordered an alarm for my 2004 MCS. I know there're some changes between 2003 and 2004. I'll be installing it myself. Has anyone added an alarm to a 2004? In term of installation, what's the difference between the 2004 and the instructions (from 2003)? Where can I get instructions for 2004 alarm?

Here's the best I could find :
To Quote Gabe Bridger where he lists 2004 accessory additions :
"Alarm system $295 (I believe this is much more plug and play than the previous system and very similar to the current 3 series system)"

Thank you for the info, Pebble!

Classic sells the alarm for $236. I'll attempt to install it with the 2003 instructions. 2004 supposed to be easier than the 2003. I hope by using 2003 instructions will not confuse me.

The 2004 kit has one less component than the 2003 kit. There is no separate tilt sensor in the 2004 kit, otherwise all of the other components are the same as the 2003 kit. You will also have to get the alarm programmed by the dealer once you install it.

Davecsumini, I havn't installed my alarm system yet (I pick up my MCS on Friday), but the main change is the the tilt sensor that was mounted in the rear boot area on the earlier MINI's is now encorporated into the siren that is mounted under the bonnet. That is the only change that I can see. Looks straight forward to me. MINIusa has the install time at .75 hours. Hope this helps.

Cheers,

JD

Does anyone know if the '04 alarm kits are made by MINI, or is it made by an after-market alarm company? And if so, who.

Thanks

Kiwi, as far as I know it is made by MINI. One part is a replacement wiper stalk with a red led on the end that flashes when the system is acivated.

Cheers,

JD

I thought about getting the aftermarket alarm. However, I want to utilize the factory remote. So I ended up getting the factory alarm. IMO, $236 is reasonable, considering it's a MINI factory item.

The key remote was my reason to go with the factory alarm also. Paid the same price from Classic. Don't forget that your dealer may charge you to reprogram your alarm.

Cheers,

JD

Thanks for the reminder!

I'll have both the alarm and the fog light switches activated the same time. I believe the dealer quoted me $45 for programming it. Not too bad!
