05 R50 manual xmission 56k 2nd owner

I was driving in to work this morning no problem untill I was coming in the main gate of the military base. I heard no noise but the shifter went 'limp' it gets stuck in the left and right 1/2 and 5/R track, I can saw threw all 5 and R no problem just no springy response back to N. Upon parking I noticed that I felt like I was stuck in 3rd/4th. I tried to back the poor car up and it pulls slowly forward.... I checked 1st and it deff. feels like 3rd. The mini Dealer is about 3 miles from here 6-7 stop lights I think it will make it with minimal stress to the clutch have buddy with tow cable following just in case. Any one else with a cable problem experiance this?

Limped it to the shop in 3rd clutch still feels strong and the gear is grabbing just fine.. Fairly confident its the cable.

Head Mechanic said hes almost certain its the cable will get a call later on the price and parts. Can't wait to get it back soon.

 

Confirmed it was the Cable... The mechanic let me see the other cable while it was visable. The ending of that cable was about to go so I had them replace both at once. 400 Euros later and my mini is back to jamming down the autobahn.
