I have a January production car that I am planning to get a covered transport for in late February to ship the vehicle from the midwest/east coast out to Oregon.

Questions:

1. Are there others with January production cars who are interested in covered transport from East to West as well? If we can get a group of people, we can save some significant money.

2. Does anyone have strong transport recommendations? I'm looking at the following.

a.) Concours -- Chief Charlie and others have shared them. Cost was brought down from 1500ish to 900ish with a group of about 3 recently, Charlie - please elaborate.

b.) Passport

c.) A-1

d.) Horseless carriage

All except A-1 have rec'd some number of recommendations.

Please let me know (mcdavis@dsl-only.net)

Regards, Mark

Waggoners, Wagoneers, Waggoneers (sp?)

They're one of BMW's official enclosed carriers across the US.

The people at Hallmark transportation are nice too.

There's a post floating around here somewhere that I started that should have a bunch of transporters listed.....

Here was my original thread.

I also have a $150 credit for All Points Transporters if you'd be interested.

Mark,
I priced the major carriers (Passport---recently purchased by FedEX), Horseless Carriage, etc etc, as well as Waggoner---eventually they answered their phone) and the cheapest and most agreeable (and reliable as it turns out) was still Concours. Did receive good reviews from another person about das, but their price was terminal to terminal, not portal to portal like Concours. But, you need to make some calls yourself to be convinced.

Get a copy of Hemmings Motor News and there are probably 20+ transporters listed in ads. Just start calling and emailing. Some have online sites to get estimates.

As far as price, it depends on volume, i.e. the number of cars. Our November 03 haul from Classic MINI in Mentor to Santa Clara, CA (2,500 miles) was originally $1,400 for just my car; and when we ended up with 7 on the truck, it was $900 per car. I don't have a price yet from Fred for the 3 car haul in Mid-January, but my experience tells me that other similiarly-equipped carriers won't come within $300 of his eventual quote.

Timing is another issue. Some carriers are better than others in getting your car to you. The bigger problem is when they get around to picking your car up, and not the trip across the US. Weather is a BIG factor right now, as is the "auction circuit" Barrett Jackson at Scottsdale is just around the corner.

Thanks Chief Charlie. Always very informative.

I will post my findings later in the week. I am not just looking for a good deal though and am favoring quality over everything else...I also want GPS tracking. Will post much more detail about the top 5 or so candidates soon.
