R50/53 MCS in BestMotoring Jan04 video
My wife was fortunate to find the last VHS at a local Japanese book store.
BestMotoring is a Japanese car magazine (BestCar) video/DVD where
professional GT drivers drive around many different new cars,
specialty cars, sports cars, race cars, and comment on their impressions.
The video tape I got is in Japanese.
Japan benchmarks FF performance cars after the IntegraType-R.
It is still the very best FF performance car out in the market around
the globe (according to these drivers) in the respects of driving a car
fast at the track or touge. the MCS (and 3 other cars) was driven up and
down some touge (toe geh) or 'twisties' in some Japanese mountain
side where corners are very tight. their impression in a nutshell was
that the MCS has a lot of power at high rpm and suspension very well
balanced for the powerband it comes with. Compared vs the TypeR,
the suspension is setup rather soft and does not have the racer-feel
out of the box like the TypeR...transmission also not as smooth. but
the MCS holds its own and was a car the drivers enjoyed driving.
I kinda agree with the video.
Even the RSX-S 6MT I test drove was far smoother in the gates than
the MCS. The clutch was lighter and easier to control. MCS may be a
'softer' suspension setup for the smooth roads of Japan compared to
the TypeR, but 'solid enough' for our American roads for most people.
If you guys get an opportunity to get your hands on the translated
version, it may be fun to watch, but its only like a 10min segment
of the entire video so not sure if it's worth buying. It does include
impressions of other faster FR platforms including the new lightweight
M3's, Benz, S2000's, TurboMiata prototype, etc.

WOW... i would love to seee that vid. any chance u can get it online? or does anyone know where i can download it?
I personally like the gearshift feel and clutch feel of the MINI... I drove a RSX Type S, not R and the gear shift was tooo soft. didnt feel sporty... and the clutch is too light. but thats just me.

I think the translated version should be out in the US in about a month or so.
You can buy those either at Asahiya bookstore or probably online...
try http://www.autofreak.net as well, as I've seen them selling these BestMotoring
video's at their store in LA.
