R50/53 Tailight replacement.
Tailight replacement.
Hello everyone,
I'm a new member and a new owner of a not-new(2005) Mini Cooper Hatchback.
The other day, while loading something into the boot, I bumped the object against the thin plastic cover of the left rear light complex, producing a nasty-looking star crack. Since that is the only ding on my car, I could not resist trying to mend it. A first attempt using super glue was unsatisfactory, possibly because I used the gel form instead of the liquid.
I sprung for a new assembly. Accessing the old assembly through the panel cover on the side of the boot was easy, as was removal of the single washer/nut at its forward end. The assembly still won't move, however. I notice the two shiny metal clips on the new one. I can see them on the old one, but they are quite inaccessible and I can't see whether and/or how they attach. Can someone help? It looks like I'll need to do this again to change burned-out bulbs.

Thanks much for your most prompt reply
. I'm looking at the replacement assembly now. I only see one threaded bolt. It's in the middle, towards the inside. I think those two shiny clips toward the outside may have something to do with holding the unit in place, but I can't see how they work, or how to unsnap them.
