R50/53 Inconsistant starts with MCS
This may be nothing since i know not much about cars, but i've noticed that everytime i start my MCS (which has done about 2600kms) the ignition start seems to range from "normal" to long winding ones. I mean the engine seems fine and the drive is still heaven, and this has only occured recently.
I started the car again this morning (the weather not being too cold - about 20 degrees C) and it took a little longer than usual. Minutes later i did the same thing and it started fine. Could this just be me (Oh i sure hope so!) or should i contact my guys @ my dealership and have my MCS checked out? I understand i've passed some topics similar to this but i'm not getting much help from search with no luck finding the topics.
Also, i'd like to add that i rarely drive my MCS (in 3 months i've only clocked about 2600kms) so could this also contribute to my "paranoia"? This is my first car and after spending the time that i have with it i have no intention of getting rid of my MCS even after i upgrade to a new car. :???:
Appreciate the help guys and gals.
Kudos

Bazillions of software upgrades have been released claiming to fix this. Actually... attempting to fix this "cold start" problem is what got most people the "stumble". There's a new software version that's kind of available, slated to fix the stumble. Perhaps it fixes the cold start, too?
I generally have to start mine twice in the mornings. Rest of the starts are fine. So I suppose I'm telling you not to worry about it--but take it to your dealer (if you dare) as they *may* be able to fix it with the new software.

Thanks for the replies guys. I suppose alot usually can go wrong with a car that's as technologically sophisticated at the MINI (Murphy's Law must be salvating) so i'll just keep up the TLC for now.
On a side note upon picking up my MCS i was asking about engine durability and my dealer mentioned that the car was tested on the track before hand and that pushing the 200Km mark wouldn't "affect" the engine at all. It was weird to hear that at the time
Happy motoring guys and gals

Sadly the 2004 didn't fix this problem. I got mine in Oct. I have only 2400mi on it and had the same problem described in this thread. This morning was about 18F and the idle was very rough. I restarted the car and it idled fine but the "service engine soon" light came on. I let the car sit a few hours and started it up again and it was fine.
I've been reading about this all day trying to fine out all I can before going to the dealer. What I've found out so far that there are two things you can do. The first thing is an upgrade replacement of the ECU chip. The second is the software upgrade. I've consulted other gear heads about both fixes. Sadly neither technique fixes the problem all the time. Additionally other problems have arisen as a result of the upgrade/fix ranging from stalling during low idling and degradation in performance/acceleration.
I’m hesitant to try either fix at this point unless the symptom worsens. In the meantime I’ll continue to research the problem until something more conclusive is discovered.
