I see a lot of talk about waiting 2-3 months or more and sometimes it seems as though this is overly unusual. I personally have NEVER bought a car off the lot. Mostly because i tend to buy pretty popular cars, and also because i just don't find the options i want sitting on a lot. Here's every car i ever bought....

1997 Saturn SC1 - 2-3 month wait
1999 New Beetle - 2-3 month wait
2000 New Beetle - would have been a 2 month wait but ended up being 2 weeks cause they found me a car.
2002 Audi A4 - 3 month wait
2004 MCS - just over 2 months now....should be another couple weeks...

What other cars have you had to wait for?

Waited for my 64 Corvair Spyder, the first car I ordered. It was also one of the neatest cars I ever owned. Turbocharged and great handling, no manner what Ralph Nader says.

Also waited for my 65 Chevy II SS.

All the others I bought of the lot.....65 GTO, 67 Corvette, 68 Z-28 and others to numerous to mention.

Sorry, I have never waited for a car.

I've been through the "glorious" MINI wait twice....and would love to wait on the Elise!!

Ha ha, I remember my dad ordered a Ford Falcon Futura in 1967 and waited about 6-8 weeks for delivery: no power steering...drove like a TRUCK! It was solid, though...and very reliable.

I wish I was around in the 60's...must have been cool to see those cars when they were brand new! I didn't have to wait for my 67 mustang, I bought it off my uncle and drove it home that day...and I didnt have to wait for my mini because it was in the showroom. I dont like waiting!

I’ve never waited for a car, but on occasion I’ll pull over and let them catch up a little.

My first wait...2003 MINI Cooper...4 months
My second wait...another mini...a mini-van that is 2004 Honda Odyssey (3 weeks) after the dealership wrecked our 2-week-old 2003 Odyssey

One of the first Volvo 850 wagons to arrive in the states. It was a 5-speed and well worth the 5-month wait. We sold it after 7 years and bought a van , which currently eclipses the MINI in our garage.

I remember my parents waiting on their 1971 Chrysler Town and Country wagon (which gives a whole new definition to waiting for ones "ship to come in" ). This was complicated by a Detroit-wide auto workers strike at the time...

Otherwise, I've always bought cars right off the lot usually on the first day I walk onto the lot. Plenty of research ahead of time means that I don't deal with the salesperson hassle and usually get a great deal. Until the MINI, I've never paid more than about 90% of sticker...usually much less. At least with the MINI, although I had to wait and had to pay "MSRP", I had to spend only about 30 minutes in the showroom. I love buying cars, but I hate the physical process (MINI included).

Infiniti G35 coupes with the 6 speed had a 6 month long wait list so we got a AT one off of the lot after waiting weeks until they got one we liked. At that point they were only getting about 4 a month but now they have some on the lot that are waiting to go and not the customers waiting so they have become more available now.

I waited 3.5 months for my 2003 Jetta GLS TDI wagon - the only car I've ever bought new. When I first started looking at TDI's in late 2002 I was told I'd wait about 3 months for a wagon as they are very rare and usually sold before they are even built, so I was sure to order exactly wait I wanted (GLS pakcage, leather interior, Ingigo Blue). Very happy I did.

So far I havn't seen a MC or MCS spec'd they way I'd want it, so I know I'd have to order one if I had the money. :???:

Lucky JerseyGirl: She got exactly what she wanted right off the showroom floor...

good one!

My MINI is only my second new car. I waited 7 months for her,
and waited 2 months for my first new car, a 98 Subaru Outback Ltd, mostly because I wanted a particular color, and manual tranny.

>>What other cars have you had to wait for?

What cars have I waited for? Oh My ! In my entire life I bought ONLY ONE new car off the floor, a 1963 Chevy Corvair Spyder Convertible - it stole my heart. All of the following new cars I ordered and waited for so I could get exactly the colors and options I wanted:

1956 Chevy Bel Aire Conv. (triple black, even the tires, when most other cars were two, three, even four colors!)
1960 VW w/Sunroof (wanted the Karman Ghia Conv. but when I got out of the Army I couldn't afford it)
1963-1/3 Falcon Sprint Convertible
1964 Mercury Comet Caliente Convertible
1969 Chrysler 300 Convertible (still own it -- still looks brand new -- it's always been garaged)
1976 Triump TR7 (Concurrently with this and the following new cars through 1999 I owned several super showboat convertibles - see below)
1984 Chrysler Laser XE Turbo
1984 Chrysler Town & Country Station Wagon
1994 Dodge Neon Sport
1995 Chrysler Cirrus LXI
1999 Chrysler 300M (stablemate to the '69 300)
2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser
and in about two more weeks my new '04 MCS w/JCW Kit arrives with all the bells 'n whistles !

Used Cars I've owned ? ? ? My first two were a sweet '39 Ford Deluxe Coupe and a '50 Chevy Convertible. The rest were all parts of a show car collection which I began in 1975. I did not own all of them concurrently: '56 Packard Patrician, '60 Lincoln Continental Mark V Convertible, '63 Lincoln Continental 4-door Convertible, '64 Chrysler New Yorker Hdtp Sedan, '65 Lincoln Continental 4-door Convertible, '77 Lincoln Continental Town Car. All these are now gone.

Could anyone say I was a litte Car Crazy ? Nahhhhhhh ! ! !

I waited alittle over a month for my 02 VW GTI 1.8T. I was told it would be 3months but the dealership found one in transit and surprized me just in time for Christmas .

Soon I will begin the wait for my MCS. That 1 month wait about drove me nuts, I can't imagine what this one is going to be like.

Besides my MCS (18 months from pre-dealership opening to delivery, 6 months from down payment to delivery) I've only waited on used cars I was searching for. From actively searching Hemmings Motor News and specialty publications, I estimate that I searched about 12 months for my MGC. The MINI was the only dealership purchase that I've had to actually wait to own.

I waited 13 months for my first S2000 - deposit January 1999 (1st or 2nd in Richmond, 1st for the S2K at that particular dealer), then the car debuted in September 1999 and finally the right deal and car came my way in February 2000 (long story). Then I traded it for a new S2000 in December 2001.

I was the very first deposit holder at Crown MINI of Richmond and waited 10 months for my Cooper - deposit June 2001 and delivery (pre-spec'd car by MINIUSA) in April 2002. Drove the Cooper until March 2003 when I placed an order for a Cooper S JCW - car arrived in May and I sold my Cooper.
