Great MINI Practically Free!!!

OK. I found this on Craigslist. The owner replied to my questions and here is the add and reply.

Basically it's an 06 with 20k miles and she is leaving for Afganistan (sp)

http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/cto/1713953136.html

says car is in MT

here is her response to my email.

good luck. probably a scam but hell who knows. she sounds somewhat legit..

Hi,
I am selling this car because my platoon has been sent back to Afghanistan and don't want it get old in my backyard. The price is low because I need to sell it before May 05. It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident..I do have the title , clear, under my name. The car have 20,000 miles, year 2006 and VIN WMWRE33586TJ37581.It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad $4400. The car is in Great Falls, MT, in case it gets sold I will take care of shipping. Let me know if you are interested, email back.
Regards!!!

I hear it has 11 car fax items lol so who knows...

Send her the """CASH"""

I think you need to send the cash and not a check and hitchhike out to pick it up. I'm sure this is not a scam. You sure don't want it sold out from under you.

Scam people are experts at sounding legit.

Really "DON'T DO IT" Hitchiking is dangerous.

you can tell its a scam by the poor grammer... and the Afganistan story... there have been many many using that lately. Usually its the "Its my dead son's car I need to get rid of it"...Least they went the 'lighter' route.

You could probably come across the exact pics and exact description in an Autotrader ad for the same car for 4 times the price

um, I took the 05 to mean the day, not the year...

I have seen far too many of these in my search to even bother writing these people.

When you see specs on a car that don't even come close to matching up with the price, you know something is up. As a matter of fact, I find that people have their MINIs priced WAY TOO HIGH rather than too low.

Yeah I see alot of low priced Minis on craigslist recently. But usually have something like "Mini Cooper S 2005" and you look at the pictures and its from some dealers site, and its not even an MCS picture.

This is one the biggest scams on Craig's List across the Country. If you inquire further, the buyer will explain in a seemingly legitimate way that they wish to use Ebay Motor's Vehicle Protection Program to handle payment. If you agree, you will receive a seemingly legitimate email from an Ebay representative complete with Ebay graphics instructing you to transfer money into an "escrow account" that will only be released to the seller once you have received the shipment of the car. Once you send the money, you will never hear from them again. If you call Ebay, they will tell you that they never have anything to do with transactions that do no take place on Ebay's website. Anything else is a scam. I have read countless posts of people who have lost thousands of dollars to this scam and it appears the FBI is investigating it. Spread the word around so people can avoid this scam.

Never do anything illegal, but if you want to go fishing...

Has anybody thought of trying to waste the scammers time...kinda like scamming a scammer? We could all call and show interest and try to buy cars from her!!! Make her send us a ton of crapp, as "what modds do you have, where did you get them" (let's see how many pictures she cuts and pastes from this very website!!), get them to make some e-mails, maybe even say we will all say we want the "e-bay" buyers protecton service to use fed-ex or ups overnight...and she can add the $$ to the cost of the car ( only if you are 110% sure it is fake/scam). We just say we don't trust computers, send me the paper copies, and pre-paid envelopes....
Scammers are like any bussiness person, to survive they must make more than they spend...maybe we should all go fishing on the obvious fakes...not saying we should become mean, just waste some of their time and $$ so they won't find beaing dishonest so lucrative. Oh...and be sure to flag their adds!!
Like I said before...never do anything ilegal, but the best fun ever is scamming a scammer!!! Again, do not be dishonest or vengeful, just be helpful mini folk, helping a futue un-sofistcated mini owner...and letting them know, don't mess with Mini folks!!!

I hope you haven't sent the money yet. I talked her down to $3700. The car is coming FedEX on Tuesday, extended warranty, new tires and a complete detail job inside and out to get rid of the dirt from storage
