I'm considering of installing an aftermarket alarm. Does anyone know any website where I can find informations on wire colosr and locations? Mainly, I need to know where I can tap into the ignition ground wire. Also, any suggestion for LED location?

There have been several topics on this subject. Look through the thread history for interior and mods. I don't have an alarm for my 2004 MCS. I am thinking about getting the factory alarm system. A fellow mini owner purchased one for his 2003 MC and he said it was relatively easy to install. He paid $300 for the system and $60 to 'reprogram' his computer.

The factory alarm even as a retrofit (at least on '03 and later models) is pretty decent for a factory piece. It integrates into the standard keyless entry and engine immobilizer system, has interior motion as well as vehicle tilt sensors standard and (little known fact) the siren will continue to sound even if the battery is disconnected. I installed the foactory system myself in about 45 minutes, and the dealer charged $44 to program it (as well as front and rear foglights) into the computer.

If you have an '02 model, the factory alarm installation is a great deal more complicated because unlike the later models, the wiring is not already in place. You will have your interior pretty much removed in order to run all the necessary wiring where it needs to be.

The '03 alarm kit will not work on a '04 model. MiniUSA are aware of this. Seems like some sensors have been rewired/relocated for the '04 models, thus the incompatability. No word from MINI when the '04 alarm kit will be available.

FYI...

Although I havent done an alarm on MINI yet, here is the info I have from Directed Electronics, (the company that makes Auto-Mate and Viper). Their information is pretty good, but always double check with a voltmeter.

color/ polarity/ location
12volts/ red / + / ignition harness
Starter/ black/blue / + / ignition harness

Ignition/ green/ + / ignition harness
Second Ignition/ purple/black / + / ignition harness

Power Lock/ blue/red / - / blk plug @ BCM in pass. kick
Power Unlock/ white/gray or white/black / - / blk plug @ BCM in pass. kick
Lock Motor/ white / / blk plug @ BCM in pass. kick
Unlock Motor/ blue / / blk plug @ BCM in pass. kick

Parking Lights/ black / - / blu plug @ BCM in pass. kick

Door Trigger/ brown/gray / - / blk plug @ BCM in pass. kick

Trunk/Hatch Pin/ gray/brown / - / blk plug @ BCM in pass. kick
Hood Pin/ purple/green / - / blk plug @ BCM in pass. kick

Thank you for all the suggestions!
My 2004 MCS will be delivered in Jan. Mostlikely, I'll install an aftermarket alarm for it.

wkndracr: Your info is most valuable. Thank you!

Keep in mind the info i posted is for the '03. Its probably the same for the '04, but as I mentioned, verify with a voltmeter before connecting.
