Just wanted to let you know that the headaches are gone!!! Must have just been those new car fumes. One month later I have no problems like I did when I first got it. The new car smell is still there and I love that. Now on to more motoring.

Try putting several open boxes of Arm & Hammer baking soda in the drivers compartment. Change them out for fresh ones every two weeks for two months and see if that helps.

Good to hear that your headaches are gone. It could also be that your brain got trained to the view and the motions of your MINI. But either way, more motoring seems to have solved the problem!

My dog threw up in my car the other day though..... She was good enough to go down to the rubber mats before throwing up..... Oh well I guess I need to drive with less g's when my dog is in the car.

 

Funny you say that about your dog katanapilot....and the g's that you are exerting on it....I guess my driving style has changed because my dog was in the back with the seats down. I took a turn pretty hard and fast and my dog literally rolled and hit the side of the coop and then back to the other side all before I realized what was happening. So maybe my dog is getting the headaches now. :smile:

 

Not to be a smartass, but the correct term for this phenomenon is OFFgassing (jsun is right, of course ). OUTgassing actually refers to the release of chemicals from plastics under vacuum conditions, such as on a spaceship.

Offgassing is often a huge problem in new office buildings, which are usually sealed environments filled with brand-new carpeting, chairs, partitions, and paint, all of which release toxins to some degree. The similarity of this environment to a brand new car is obvious.

The best thing you can do is to increase ventilation as much as possible to carry the chemicals away and allow the process to run its course as quickly as possible. In a car, leave the windows open whenever possible, and run the ventilation as high as you can stand.

You can also look into the possibility of running an air purifier from the cigarette lighter. A carbon-zeolite filter will help to filter out the organic chemical gases from the air (A HEPA filter, on the other hand, won't do much good, since they only remove particulates, not chemical gases). THIS ONE looks pretty good.

I just want to mention that I had this problem too, but it only lasted about a week. Leaving the windows/sunroof open overnight helped, as did running the A/C. I am now motoring headache free. :smile:
