Anyone know what this thing is?

I recently had some body work done on my MINI. Since getting the car back from the shop, I've been going over it to make sure they reassembled it correctly.

Tonight, I discovered what looks like a switch just hanging on the passenger side of my engine compartment. Looks like it is supposed to plug into something, but I can't see an open socket.

Anyone know what this is? And should it just be hanging there like that?

My guess it's the switch that tells you your hood is unlatched- I think it should be inside the latch mechanism that's also in your photo.

That's what it is. Mine was loose, too. Used a small wire tie to hold it in place.
