Stoopid Noob Tach Display Question

So I finally got my '02 R50 home today... Used to driving my dad's R53, which has an OBC. Anyways, after failing to notice this on the test drive, there's no button on my turn signal lever because mine doesn't have an OBC. The bottom of the tach reads the outside temp. In the manual, it says that it can also read current speed. The optional OBC obviously gives the avg spd, mpg, etc. Question is this: how the heck do I get from temp to speed?

Sorry, I promise I searched. Found one thread that said you can't. Hoping that's not correct :( Maybe I'll get used to looking over if I have to

Sorry, but the tach can't display speed in an '02. The feature wasn't available until newer models.

Not exactly true..

you can put the gizmo into a diagnostic mode and display all sorts of craap. But it's a bit of a pain to do, and resets every time you start your car. But you can get speed (in kmh) temp and a bunch of other things on it.

And you can retrofit the later stalk and get the button.
