passenger seat broken

My passenger seat is broken. Mini tried to fix it and I have read all of the online crack methods. So here is my question. REplace the whole seat and buy a new one or try to fix it buying the parts from mini. That would be expensive and thats if I can fix it.

Any thoughts? Anyone have this issue? Cost of either choice. Anyone have seats that they dont need and want to donate. Anyone know of aftermarket seats that perform and look similar?

I have a 05 MCS with sport seats with black leatherette.

How is it broken? No recline? No tilt? If MINI couldn't fix it, replacement sounds like the best option. Sometimes stock seats show up in the marketplace.

It does not tilt back past its first click. It goes all the way forward to let in a passanger but does not go back past the first click.

But then you can manually recline it into the correct position?

No it goes all the way forward and then only back in to the first position. Which is to say that anyone sitting in the seat is leaning forward.

have you tried taking the seat out of the car to fix it? Mine was giving me a fit not too long ago, I couldn't recline it at all. I took it out of the vehicle (more space, more leverage) put my knees on the seat bottom, wrenched up on the adjustment handle and pushed on the seatback, heard a horrible pop (thought I broke the seat) and then it started working just fine. I had tried to do this in the car, but it didn't wind up working, out of the car worked like a charm!

I had a similar issue with an 04 that I owned. Ended up getting the back frame of the seat replaced by Custom Mini Shop. Do you have an extended warranty if so that might help. I have a link to CMS in my signature line if nothing else Steve might have an idea that could help you out. The part was cheaper then going out and getting a new seat however the post earlier about getting one from a NAM member as an option.
