New Owner Questions

Just bought a 2006 Mini Cooper with the Harman Kardon stereo and have a few questions that I can't answer.

- the car has an iPod adapter is in the glove box. I understand the steering wheel controls can advances songs within a playlist but can the radio or multifunction steering wheel controls do any more advanced commands such as searching for certain songs?

- when I press the "mode" button on the radio, I get a "no magazine" message. Does this message refer to a CD changer and if so, does that mean I have a CD changer that I haven't found (can't imagine where it would be).

- What does the R/T and phone button on the multifunction steering wheel do?

- I know that I'll be needing more space and will be purchasing a roof rack and either hard or soft sided cargo box/bag. Any suggestions on what work well on the Mini?

Thanks for the help and insights

i can help with where the cd changer would probably be if you have one. it'd be mounted in the boot on the passenger side. its pretty visible so if you havent seen it you probably dont have it. maybe the car had one before and the previous owner sold it. goodluck and hopefully you get some more helpful replies!

If it is a factory ipod adapter, then you can select playlists with the 1-6 buttons (the playlists must be called MINI1, MINI2...). You can not do anything else.

It doesn't sound like you have a CD changer.

The R/T and phone buttons only work if you have factory bluetooth, which you most likely do not.

You will be surprised how much you can fit in the MINI if you pack well. you may not need the roof rack.

I just bought a 2004 Mini last Friday and have the same issues. I have the iPod adapter in the glove box as well. From what I understand from the manual the iPod isn't compatable with the CD disc changer so there is none. I can't play a single CD from the console which seems unusual. I get messages of "no magazine" and "no disc." I can't read the menu from the iPod which makes selection of songs difficult. Need to learn more about this I guess.

Another Couple of Questions

My rear view mirror has a black cup located on its underside. I assuming that I have the automatic glare adjustment. Is this correct?

Also are there any roof racks that don't require drilling into the roof of the Mini for their installation? I'd rather not make such a permanent installation but don't know what other options I have.

Thanks,
Wilver

That sounds like the manual adjustment if you have an 05 or 06. Twist it to adjust the mirror. The auto adjusting has a small window for the sensor.
