On the '03 and '02 Cooper S's, the glovebox is below the silver dash decoration. On the '04s, there's just a parcel shelf there. Is there a conventional glove box on the '04s or not?

All U.S. market MINI's have gloveboxes from the factory. The parcel shelves are for the european market only - that is, unless you buy one yourself and install it.

Where did you dig up this assumption, anyway?

Ryephile: On Miniusa.com, go to the gallery, click on Mini Cooper S interior pictures, and notice the parcel shelf (could it be that there's a European model pictured)?

That's where "I dug up" that assumption.

Ok,

When they talk about adding the parcel shelf (Moss Mini), can you only do it on the driver's side?

The Euro parcel shelf parts exist for both the left and right side of the dash. The driver's side is relative to the country that the MINI is operated in. Right handed steering in the UK, Japan, etc while left handed steering in the US.

When the MINI first came out in europe the standard dash had two euro parcel shelves. Later there was a small driver's side cubby storage area about 4x5" and 5" deep and now the current european MINIs have the glovebox on the passenger side.

So in the US, the glovebox is on the dash on the right, while on the left driver's side, the euro shelf increases storage.

So, if my North American Mini has a glovebox, can I put a parcel shelf below it?

That is not an ideal thing to do. When you see it mentioned on this board, people have removed the bolster under the steering wheel and replaced it with a parcel shelf, thereby adding space. Then you have the glovebox AND the parcel shelf!

I've added the parcel shelf under the steering wheel. I love it and it holds quite a few items neatly out of site. Replacing the bolster with the parcel shelf also adds some driver knee room.

Great add-on!

My two pence,

Theo
