No Muff Exhaust

This is my first post as a member of this amazing Mini Forum. I have a 06 Mini S and have done a ton of research on here concerning exhaust. So I go to the exhaust shop and they lift my car up. He says basically the only options I had were...one-ball it..or no-ball it...lol. I had him remove both the resonator and muffler due to the fact that they hang a lil below the car and would look uneven with one muffler on the drivers side still showing. He did a Y pipe and two pipes going around the "box" then out the back. I knew it was gonna be loud but..wow..its loud. Every time I shift the car burbles and pops. It sounds good when you give it a lil hell but has anyone else just cut both the resonator off and muffler and left it like that? Ideas and opinions are greatly appreciated...thanks..and look forward to being a NorthAmericanMotoring member!

Welcome to the site! If you daily drive your car, I hope you've got some ear plugs or some way to silence the noise. Many people have removed one muffer (one-ball), but not too many people remove both as it's simply too loud to still be able to enjoy the car, much less avoid getting pulled over for exhaust too loud.

Add a resonator up by the cat and you might be able to tolorate that better.

Yea, I contemplated the resonator idea. I absolutely love the sound when you mash the gas..but driving around town and shifting all the time...scary loud. Removing those heavy mufflers probably helped the ole weight reduction category some though.

I removed both from my R53 initially. But it's just too loud after a while. What I did was what Way said. Throw a resinator in line....in my case I threw in a resinator and a 12" Smitty. THe Smitty went in after I put on the aftermarket header and took out the two cats in the stock unit. But speaking from experience.....with one in-line resonator and the stock header unit your car should be just fine. Enjoy! Just be sure to watch out for cops....depending on how hard they are on the sound levels of the cars in your area!
