R50/53 Who has had to replace the Power Steering Pump?
My MINI had it's second power steering cooling fan replaced yesterday. Our very nice local dealer replaced this one under warranty also. All warranty repair parts are covered for 2 years. This last fan lasted 10 months before it made its ominous rumbling noises.
UPDATE:
I spoke to race pages aka autopartswharehouse and they told me that the part that they said was in stock was not in stock and I could return the fan. then in the transfer to returns i was disconnected.
Well that stunk.
I am back to step 1. Where do I get the pump?

I posted earlier in this thread that I had only done the fan... now I've done the pump, too. Out of nowhere my pump got extremely loud at all times, inside the cabin it was all you could hear. Because it was probably related to the bad fan that was replcaed earlier, the dealer took care of it and replaced the pump. 24K miles.
So I cant find a pump out there that is reman and affordable. So I am going to remove the pump and send it to BBA. This means that my mini will sit for a week or two while its going back and forth.
Anyone know what tools are needed and how do I keep the fluid in the hoses while the car sits? Anyone have the step by step on this one?

No special tools, prozac or similar is a must! Typical socket set with extentions (for the bolts on the back, in front of the rack) and metric wrenches were all I needed.
I did not need to keep the fluid in, as I needed to replace the pressure hose.
All new fluid went back in.
To be honest, the biggest pain for me was the hose from pump to resevoir.
That sucker is hard to put back on. I ended up loosening the resevoir to give me some slack. I also used a regular stainless steel hose clamp at the resevoir. No way was that crimp clamp going back on (okay so maybe that special tool would be good).
I have slept since I did this work, but shoot me any questions you have, Iwill try to help.
Good luck! Totally serious about the prozac!! Or any herbal remedys.

I've got a 2003 MC, 100,000k, and I just had the pump, rack, tie rods replaced a few months ago, as well as a new fan which I installed last year. Had it done by Mini and ever since stuffs been going wrong. The fan died in rush hour the other day and the car nearly overheated, and ever since I got the car back the xenon's just stay pointed down. Does anyone know if there is any relation to the headlights going all wonky and replacing the rack, pump and tie rods? As well, I'm worried that I've dammaged my new pump after the car overheated in traffic the other day. Really frustrated after spending a small fortune
does anyone have a little advice?
