hello every one, I am totally new here, so need some help on the topic, recently a friend of mine gave me scan tool Equus 3130 OBD2 including the manuals. after several hours reading it I decided to try it on my mini cooper s (R53) manual 6 spd. I located the DLC connect it to the scan tool accordingly in the manual, the scanner tell me " unable to establish a link with the vehicle verify the connections at the DLC, verify the ignition is on and press the ON button". My issue is I have followed as instructed in the manuals but still I cannot use the tool, I wonder if some would help or ever uses the same tool as I have that might help me.

 

ODB2 can have different buses.

Your tool may not work with your bus. I have a Scangauge2 with the latest firmware which can read CAN and the older interface.

I also have Autotap which can't read CAN and HPTuners which can read both.

While a ScanGuage is great it is not the best diagnostic tool.
I have both the SG and an ODB reader and use both for different reasons.

 

True, It's also why I have different tools as well.

The SC will allow you to reset a code and watch a few parameters, but it's not a diagnostic tool.
