The onboard computer is reporting in miles and gallons but the ouside temperature is reporting in celsius. Does anyone know if there is a onboard trick to changing this setting without going to the dealer. The dealer is 75 miles away and while it would be a pleasure to put 150 miles on my Mini I have little desire to visit the big city.

I'm afraid that this setting must be done at the dealer. Check you owners manual on the page about the computer (I don't have my manual with me.).

Collect all of your "vehicle memory" settings and visit your dealer with a list to be done all at once. You might want to check the Vehicle Memory forum thread here to see what success others (including me) have or haven't had with these settings. I'm now convinced that new MINI owners are ahead of some dealers on what can/can't be set in the vehicle memory.

Have fun!
[24 Oct 2002] I was wrong. See how to reset below.

If you have Auto AC, hold down the "Auto" button for a couple seconds. Both the auto AC temperature and the outside temperature display on computer switch between C and F.

Hope this helps...

Who says free advice is worth what you pay for it?

I held the auto button until the display changed and now I have a temperature reading I can relate to.

Thanks!

Has anyone seen the outside temperature display flash? My multifunction display was set on fuel consumption and suddenly it switched to outside temperature (accompanied by a chime, I believe) and then flashed 37 ~F for a minute or so. Perhaps an ice / frost warning? I haven't seen anything in the manual.

You're right! It IS a warning that the roads may be frozen! It startled me the first time also. I thought my MINI was freaking out! Then I remembered that I read that here several months ago.
