I was at an intersection on a hill and had to backup for a semi coming through the intersection. When I tried to shift back to drive it wouldn't budge - stuck between reverse and forward - I let it roll back a little and was able then to shift to drive. Its happened a couple of times - anyone with similar experience.

No. Remember to shift, your foot must be on the brake and the button pushed in on the CVT selector while shifting.

No, I regularly throw my MC CVT from reverse to drive without any brakes at all and no pushing the button on the shifter.

The shifter will move freely from R to N, from N to D, and from D to N, but not from N to R.

I am unaware of the problem you encountered, you may want to get that looked into.

Now to learn to do the reverse 180 that that shifting ought to allow a CVT Mini to do.

Just call me the gimp that never learned to drive stick and still wnats to mod out his mini, lol.

I will try to duplicate that non shifting issue in a parking lot and tell you if I was able to make mine do that. If not I would suspect that it may have an issue that your dealer ought to warranty.

I believe this is so just as long as the car is not moving at all.

Guys, I am totally chicken to try out the "Sport" mode.. am I supposed to step on the brake when I shift gears, or just move it? I have never tried it before.. and don't know when I'd have to shift gears. I'm debating whether I should ask my dealer to show me how.. but it's a drive to get there like almost an hour

you should totally try it out, you can't go wrong and it won't let you mess up.. and NO you don't use the brake when shifting, just go at it.. it's a good way to learn RPM to MPH ratio. i haven't tried driving stick since i screwed up my friends bmw when i was 16, but it's fun and easy to use.. especially off the line and making moves through traffic. e.g. going 60mph on the highway and need to make a quick move through the next lane.. simply tap the stick over to the right and then tap it forward, accelerate (watch rpm's go up), then tap the shifter back down, rpms chill out, then go back to D mode.. it's quite fun.. best of both worlds..

so just play with it and you'll get the fun out of it...

as for the other posts about freely moving between R N D, i can't.. i tried yesterday, and could.. i came to a stop, put it in N, then was stuck there, until i put my foot on the brake. However, I do remember a time (i think) when i was able to do it, so maybe it works for specific conditions.. but i know it didn't/wouldn't work for me yesterday..
