R50/53 Forge alloy header tank - how do I install?
Forge alloy header tank - how do I install?
I just ordered a Forge Header Tank to replace the stock tank on my 2006 R53 Cooper S.
Can anyone give any tips on how to install? I believe the connections will be straightforward but I'm not sure how to go about draining the coolant out of the old tank prior to removal and the subsequent re-filling of the new tank.

I used a turkey baster to suck the coolant from the tank. (Do this with the engine COLD)
With the fluid removed it's just a simple matter of removing the 10mm nut holding the bracket then pulling up on the tank to get to the hose on the bottom.
Install new tank in reverse order. Pour your coolant back in, up to the "ledge" in the Forge tank.
Also, don't over-tighten the cap on the new tank. It can be a bear to remove.
Hope This Helps,
Jim
